About

Currently, I'm the CTO & CIO at Esko (part of Veralto), a global leader in packaging software solutions serving CPG and pharmaceutical industries. I lead technology strategy across cloud and AI initiatives, direct engineering and IT for 460+ FTEs across Europe, India, and the US, and champion the adoption of modern development practices across the organization's software portfolio.

Before Esko, I was the CTO at Crayon, where I also served as VP for Data & AI and built the AI Center of Excellence. Before that, I held various leadership positions at IBM in Vienna and New York and CSIRO/Data61 in Australia, working on AI/ML services, Cloud, and DevOps tooling that resulted in a number of patents.

I completed my PhD in June 2009 at TU Wien, where I was a member of the Distributed Systems Group. My focus was on service-oriented architectures — in particular how to engineer resilient applications composed of microservices, just that we did not call it microservices back then.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my kids, being outdoors and various kinds of sports like Taekwondo or snowboarding.

Systems management based on semantic models and low-level runtime state

US 10,203,948Filed: September 9, 2016Granted: February 12, 2019

Various embodiments manage deployable computing environments. A semantic model of a computing environment is analyzed. The computing environment is deployed based on the analysis of the semantic model. The deployment includes executing one or more automation scripts. Changes in state are identified for each automation script executed during deployment. The semantic model is updated based on the changes in state identified for each automation script.

Implicit coordination for deployment of computing systems using a data sharing service

US 9,733,856Filed: June 25, 2015Granted: August 15, 2017

Various embodiments manage deployable computing environments. A system model of a computing environment that includes a set of computing resources is analyzed. Dependency information is generated for each computing node based on the system model. An executable coordination operation is added to each configuration operation to automatically coordinate execution across computing nodes.
